Screening for Plagiarism

Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Biomedical Sciences and Health (JBSH) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all issues of plagiarism seriously. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the use of others' published or unpublished ideas or words (or other intellectual property) without attribution or permission, and presenting them as new and original rather than derived from an existing source. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Copying text, data, figures, or tables from other sources without proper citation
  • Paraphrasing someone else's work without acknowledgment
  • Self-plagiarism (reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without proper citation)
  • Submitting a manuscript that has been published elsewhere
  • Presenting collaborative work as one's own

Plagiarism Detection

All manuscripts submitted to JBSH are screened for plagiarism using Turnitin plagiarism detection software before the peer review process begins.

Similarity Index Standards:

  • Manuscripts with a similarity index of less than 20% are acceptable for further review
  • Manuscripts with a similarity index of 20-30% will be returned to authors for revision
  • Manuscripts with a similarity index of more than 30% will be rejected immediately

Author Responsibilities

Authors are expected to:

  • Ensure that all submitted work is original and properly cited
  • Acknowledge all sources of data and materials used in the research
  • Obtain necessary permissions for reproducing copyrighted materials
  • Disclose any prior publication or submission of the manuscript
  • Sign a statement of originality confirming that the work is their own

Consequences of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected at any stage (before or after publication), JBSH will:

  • Reject the manuscript immediately if detected before publication
  • Retract the article if detected after publication
  • Inform the author's institution about the plagiarism
  • Ban the author from submitting to JBSH for a specified period
  • Report the case to relevant academic authorities
