Screening for Plagiarism
Screening for Plagiarism Policy
The Journal of Biomedical Sciences and Health (JBSH) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is strictly prohibited.
Definition of Plagiarism Plagiarism is defined as the use of others' published or unpublished ideas, words, or other intellectual property without proper attribution or permission, presenting them as new and original rather than derived from an existing source. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Copying text, data, figures, or tables from other sources without precise citation.
-
Paraphrasing someone else's work without adequate acknowledgment.
-
Self-plagiarism (reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without proper citation).
-
Submitting a manuscript that has been published or is currently under consideration elsewhere.
-
Presenting collaborative work solely as one's own.
Plagiarism Detection All manuscripts submitted to JBSH are strictly screened for similarity and plagiarism using Turnitin detection software before the peer review process begins.
Similarity Index Standards:
-
Less than 20%: Acceptable for further review (provided that similarity from any single source does not exceed 5%).
-
20% - 30%: The manuscript will be returned to the authors for revision and paraphrasing before peer review.
-
More than 30%: The manuscript will be rejected immediately without further review.
Author Responsibilities Authors are expected to:
-
Ensure that all submitted work is entirely original and properly cited.
-
Acknowledge all sources of data and materials used in the research.
-
Obtain necessary written permissions for reproducing copyrighted materials.
-
Disclose any prior publication or submission of the manuscript.
-
Confirm the originality of their work upon submission.
Consequences of Plagiarism If plagiarism or unethical behavior is detected at any stage (before or after publication), the JBSH Editorial Board will take action in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Actions may include:
-
Immediate rejection of the submitted manuscript.
-
Formal retraction of the article if the plagiarism is detected post-publication.
-
Notification to the author's affiliated institution or funding agency.
-
Imposition of a ban prohibiting the author(s) from submitting future manuscripts to JBSH for a specified period.
